It is important to know that the Regional Passport Processing Center in Washington DC no longer accepts passport renewal applications.  Passport renewals are now being processed at Her Majesty’s Passport Office in Durham, United Kingdom, which is home to the largest passport office in the United Kingdom.  

Renewing a passport is a fairly straightforward process and the costs include the government fee and courier fee to return your new passport to the United States from Her Majesty’s Passport Office. The government fee (including return courier fee using DHL) for an Adult standard 32-page passport is £105.86 and the fee for the Adult jumbo 48-page passport is £115.86.

It’s your responsibility to ship your documents securely with tracking information to Her Majesty’s Passport Office in the United Kingdom. Depending on the courier service you use (UPS, FedEx, DHL, US Postal Service), the cost of sending your documents will range in price from $30 - $75.  

Based on the current exchange rate, the total cost to renew your British passport in the United States ranges in price from $180 - $240 depending on passport type (Adult standard 32 pages or Adult jumbo 48 pages) and the courier service you use to ship your documents to the United Kingdom.
